Romanian investigators have DNA evidence proving that the man charged with breaking into an exchange office in the northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca is also guilty of breaking into the home of Cluj County Council president Alin Tise, judicial sources said.

The evidence includes video footage recorded by the security camera of a nearby bank, which shows the suspect, Mihai Petrescu, and two other people breaking into the exchange office.

Petrescu was arrested Sunday night, by the Court of Cluj-Napoca, in connection with the March 4 theft of RON196,000 (EUR1=RON4.2946) from a local exchange office. He pleaded his innocence and claimed he was out of town at the time of the robbery.

In the case of the burglary of the house of the Cluj County Council president, aside from Mihai Petrescu, Ovidiu Vancea and two other people are being investigated.
