The film competed in the international feature films section.
"Francesca", produced by Anca Puiu, Cristi Puiu and Bobby Paunescu, who is also the director of the film, tells the story of a teacher who decides to emigrate to Italy for a better life. She manages to get a job in a place near Milan and convinces her parents to support her. Things get more and more complicated when it turns out Francesca's boyfriend has borrowed some money he failed to return.
Romanian actress Monica Barladeanu, in the role of Francesca, stars alongside Dorian Boguta, Luminita Gheorghiu, Doru Ana, Dana Dogaru and Ion Sapdaru.
Bobby Paunescu was also the producer of "Moartea domnului Lazarescu", directed by Cristi Puiu, which was awarded Un Certain Regard at the Festival in Cannes in 2005.
The feature film "Cealaltă Irina" directed by Andrei Gruzsniczki and produced by the Foundation for Visual Arts was also presented at the Bursa Silk Road Film Festival in Turkey.
Early September, when it was screened at the Venice Film Festival, the film was banned by the local cinema network after Alessandra Mussolini, the granddaughter of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, and Verona mayor, Flavio Tosi, complained that the film displays insults against them.
The film is to hit cinemas in Italy starting November 27, after an Italian court rejected Mussolini's claim to have it banned.
