Romanian Films “If I Want To Whistle, I Whistle”, “Police, Adjective” Selected For Edinburgh

The third Romanian festival participant is Adrian Sitaru's short film "The Cage".

"If I Want To Whistle, I Whistle", Serban's first feature, a prison drama about a teenager's desperate bid to escape, was the first Romanian film in 17 years to be selected for the annual Berlinal Film Festival. The film won the runner-up Grand Jury Prize and the Alfred-Bauer award for cinematic innovation in the 60th edition of the Berlinale.

"Police, Adjective", Porumboiu's second feature film, is the story of a policeman from a city in the country, played by Dragos Bucur. As he investigates a minor case involving a high school pupil, he comes to lose faith in his job. The film received the FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) award and the jury's prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2009 Cannes film festival.

Sitaru's "The Cage" is the tale of a child who finds a wounded pigeon in the street and brings it home to heal it, in spite of his father's protests. The film was this year's recipient of the Best Short Film Award in the RoDays section of the Transylvanian International Film Festival.
