Romanian Romgaz Asks For 5% Higher Gas Storage Tariffs

Romania’s largest gas producer Romgaz Medias asked the country’s energy regulatory authority ANRE to raise gas storage tariffs by around 5% for the 2010-2011 winter, the company’s deputy general manager Lucian Stancu said Monday.

Contacted by MEDIAFAX, ANRE representatives said they made no decision yet in this respect, as they are waiting for Romgaz to provide additional documentation.

The regulated gas storage tariff accounts for less than 5% of the final price paid by consumers.

State-run Romgaz has a gas storage capacity of 2.8 billion cubic meters, about 20% of the natural gas sold countrywide each year.

On April 15, ANRE president decided to extend the validity period for the gas storage tariffs for Romgaz and Depomures. The latter has been part of the French group GDF SUEZ since 2007.

Thus, until it analyzes all the due documentation, ANRE will keep the gas storage tariffs valid for the 2009-2010 winter for the two companies.
