Baconschi said on Antena 3 the prime minister may ask for a minister’s resignation but this is not the case with him. He added the Foreign Ministry has achieved all its objectives in view of Schengen accession.

The minister said Wednesday evening on public television he would be willing to resign if the prime minister asked him to.

He added he regrets that his statements on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism and Croatia’s EU accession have been misinterpreted and underscored Romania supports EU enlargement to the western Balkans based on individual merits.

Baconschi was quoted by newspaper Adevarul Monday as saying Romania could denounce the EC’s Cooperation and Verification Mechanism and could condition Croatia’s EU accession over France and Germany’s plan to delay the country’s Schengen accession over its justice reform.
