Romanian Football Financer Becali Says Will Retire From Politics For A While

Romanian football mogul and head of the Christian Democrat New Generation Party, George Becali, said Sunday on Realitatea TV he will retire from politics, at least for a while, after exit polls showed the party didn’t make Parliament.

He added that politics is proving to be “unknown” for him.

Becali said he wishes to see the results he got in constituency in which he ran and depending on the party’s results, he will decide whether to quit politics for good, or come back to it in a few years.
 
According to an Insomar exit poll, Becali’s party secured 2.1% of the votes for the Chamber of Deputies and Senate, while a CCSB poll indicates the party got 1.7% of the votes for the Chamber of Deputies and 1.9% for Senate. The party needed at least 5% to make Parliament.
