The other seven who requested consulate assistance are Palestinian citizens.
According to a statement of the ministry, all these requests were sent immediately to the Israeli authorities in charge of issuing the necessary authorizations.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry is permanently monitoring the evolution of the situation in the area and reiterates the recommendation to Romanian citizens in the Gaza Strip to contact the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv for exit procedures, the statement read.
The citizens’ exit from the Gaza Strip depends equally on the consulate procedures as well as on Israel’s internal legislation, the ministry said.
The staff of Romania’s Embassy in Israel is in direct telephonic contact with members of the Romanian community in Gaza to inform them on the procedures to be observed in order to leave the area, and is trying to identify as many Romanians as possible.
The Romanian embassy in Cairo is keeping up efforts to receive response concerning the request of Romanian citizens to exit the Gaza Strip to Egypt through the Rafah crossing. Egyptian authorities are currently analyzing the request.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said it took all measures to support Romanian citizens located in the Gaza Strip, and consolidated the consulate team of the embassy in Israel.
Romania’s Embassy in Tel Aviv draws up a list based on the evacuation requests it receives and sends it to the Israeli authorities in charge of issuing exit authorizations, the statement read. Without this authorization, no citizen of any state is able to leave the Gaza Strip.
The list contains the family name and the given name, date and place of birth, the number of the Romanian travel document and the number of the Palestinian identity document, and a contact phone number.
If the case requires, the embassy sends identification requests to the Directorate General for Passports and the Directorate for Consulate Relations for the issuing of travel papers and informs the Romanian Embassy in Amman to ensure transit through Jordan.
The Romanian Embassy in Amman notifies local authorities on the arrival of the group of Romanian citizens and obtains approval for the issuing of Jordanian visas at the border crossing.
It also books plane tickets via TAROM agency for the departure of Romanian citizens, if possible on the same day they enter Jordan’s territory.
After having received approval from the Israeli authorities, the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv takes over the Romanian citizens from the border crossing Erez and transports them to the Israeli-Jordanian border, where they are taken over by the Romanian Embassy in Amman and led to the airport.
If the Egyptian authorities allow the exit of Romanian citizens through the Rafah crossing, the Romanian Embassy in Cairo ensures travel papers based on the information sent by Tel Aviv and informs the Romanian citizens on their obligations on Egyptian territory.
The ministry reminded that if there are Palestinian citizens married to Romanian women among the people requesting evacuation from the Gaza Strip, Romania’s embassies in Tel Aviv and Cairo respectively will provide the necessary visas according to the known procedures, based on requests received also via rapid mail or fax.
The visa request will ask the National Center for Visas that the approval be sent to all three diplomatic missions, in Tel Aviv, Cairo and Amman, so as to have the visa issued by any of these diplomatic missions.
