Popa, who fled Romania in May 2000, has been jailed in Jakarta for a year and is currently hospitalized at the National Police Hospital in East Jakarta suffering from acute gastritis, the paper said.
"In a call between National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo and Romanian ambassador Gheorghe Vilcu at National Police headquarters today we agreed to deport Nicolae Popa," National Police spokesman Maj. Gen. Iskandar Hasan told a media conference.
Romania and Indonesia do not have an extradition treaty and Romania must wait until an Indonesian court rules over this issue before deporting Popa, the paper reported Iskandar as saying.
"The first trial was held at the South Jakarta district court on Monday. The second trial will be held on Nov. 29 since the court needs an interpreter to help with this matter. We will provide the interpreter," Iskandar said.
According to Iskandar, Popa has not committed a crime in Indonesia and was visiting Jakarta as a tourist but the police arrested him on December 3, 2009 because of a warrant issued by Interpol at the request of the Romanian Police.
