"We had a videoconference with prefects this morning on the June 1 local elections and we asked for a ban on the consumption of alcoholic drinks within a radius of 500 meters of polling stations. We also asked prefects to check the organization of polling stations,” Dobre said.
 
He also asked that prefects and sub-prefects be permanently present at prefect offices starting Saturday evening.
 
The state secretary added election laws suffered a series of changes, including that the permanent election list in the first round of elections be valid in the second round as well. Also, people turning 18 in the interval June 2-15, 2008 will be registered on additional lists to exercise their right to vote.
 
The changes were made in the government’s cabinet meeting Wednesday, in an emergency ordinance amending the law on local public administration, the law on the financing of political parties and the law on the uninominal voting system.
