"There are more banks’ authorization requests, even with Romanian capital, which are very good," Cinteza said during EU-Cofile seminar organized by Alpha Bank, BNR and Romanian Banks’ Association.
Cinteza added the shareholders are serious people, but refused to provide further details on their identity.
The Romanian banking system includes three banks and a credit cooperative with Romanian private majority capital, namely Banca Transilvania, Banca Comercială Carpatica, Libra Bank and CreditCoop, as well as two state-owned banks, CEC Bank and Eximbank.
Lending institutions with Romanian private majority capital hold 6.8% of the total banking assets, while state-owned banks own 5.3%. The remaining 87.9% is held by banks with foreign majority capital.
In the entire banking system, Romanian private capital represents 14.2% of the total, state capital accounts for 11.7%, while foreign capital covers 74.1%.
