Romanian Govt May Ask IMF, EC For A Loan – PM

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Tuesday he announced the European Commission that Romania plans to take a EUR6-7 billion loan from the EU, under the International Monetary Fund surveillance.
A mission of IMF is currently in Romania on a regular visit to evaluate the assess the overall macroeconomic situation and prospects and exchange views about policies with the new government.
Romania has not requested an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, and the institution is not pressing Romanian government to request such a program, IMF stated last week in a press release.
Also, the European Commission said Thursday in a press release that Romanian authorities did not request a European Commission financial support.
