"Propositions received to amend the bill will be collected and analyzed before the bill is introduced on the Government's agenda for approval. We don't think we'll have time to analyze all propositions by the next cabinet meeting, which means the bill's adoption will be postponed a week, until after Easter," the sources said.
After the Cabinet meeting of March 17, Prime Minister Emil Boc said the draft education law has been discussed and endorsed by the Government in a first reading and the bill would be under public debate for two weeks before the Government discusses it again and gives its final OK.
The deadline set for the Government's approval on the bill expires this week and the Cabinet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening, upon the prime minister's return from an official visit to Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova.
The prime minister and President Traian Basescu attended a debate on the natiaonl education law Monday in Parliament, where Basescu said two weeks of public debate is not enough. Also, several participants in the debate called on the prime minister to extend public debates for another week.
Romania's Liberal Party, in opposition, said Monday it would submit a motion on education Wednesday in Senate.
