Romania Economic Sentiment Rises Slightly In March

Romania’s economic sentiment index nudged up to 82.3 points in March from 80.9 points a month earlier, the third-lowest level across the EU, a widely watched European Commission monthly survey showed Monday.

In its latest business and consumer survey, the Commission said confidence in the Romanian industry inched up one point to minus 9 in March, while consumer and retail trade confidence rose by two points each to minus 47 and minus 10, respectively.

Confidence in the services sector increased by three points to minus 4, whereas the construction sector saw a one-point decline to minus 43.

In the EU, economic sentiment rose 2 points to 99.6 and the Commission notes the upward trend regained its momentum in March, following a short pause in February.

The eurozone economic sentiment indicator increased by 1.8 points to 97.7.
