It said a similar increase of EUR7/1000 cigarettes will be operated on September 1.
Following the move, cigarette producers said prices per pack will increase in April by RON0.4 for the most traded category of cigarettes.
As for alcohol, excises will be hiked to EUR45/hectoliter of sparkling wine from current EUR34.05/hectoliter and to EUR65/hectoliter of intermediary liquors from EUR51.08/hectoliter.
The government decided to keep excises of beer and other wine categories unchanged.
Excises of fuels, gas and energy remain unaffected as well, Romanian Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea said.
