The decision to postpone the system's implementation was made through government decree.
The country's roads authority CNADNR had initially announced that the electronic road toll system would be implemented starting August 1.
End-December 2009, CNADNR selected Romanian companies Novensys Corporation/UTI Systems to ensure the computerized system needed to issue, manage, monitor and control road toll stickers, for 35.96 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2471), VAT not included. The auction was challenged and CNADNR signed the contract in June this year.
According to a draft emergency decree drawn up by the ministry, considering the complexity of the implementation procedures, the electronic road toll system will not be available starting August 1. The ministry said that, given the facts, the deadline should be extended until October 1.
