Romanian Govt Slashes VAT Funds For Local Mayoralties
The sums taken from VAT collections and transferred to Romanian local budgets will be reduced by 2.1 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2347) in the upcoming budget revision, according to the draft obtained by MEDIAFAX.

The measure will have an impact on the salary and bonus funds for high-school education, as well as on social aid and infrastructure funds.
The reduction in the sums allotted to local budgets from VAT collected will shrink education salary funds by RON1.17 billion, according to the document.
Other reductions will be applied in the financing of non-clerical contributors to cult units nationwide (a reduction of RON18.2 million), social aid and heating aid (RON113.4 million), county and communal roads (RON50 million), infrastructure and gym development in rural areas (RON313.5 million), the salaries of staff in administrative-territorial units and other expenses (RON500 million).
