Boc reiterated that the Constitution's revision can be initiated by the President of Romania, at the Government's request, by at least a quarter of deputies and senators, or by at least 500,000 citizens of voting age.
The President has the right to pass the act on to the Parliament for debates and approval, Boc said.
The Prime Minister said the Constitution's revision will implement the results of the referendum held in November 2009: the single chamber will be called the Chamber of Representatives and will comprise up to 300 MPs. Draft laws will be read and debated in two separate plenary meetings, at least 30 days apart, before adoption.
Romanian lawmakers on Tuesday adopted with four abstentions the draft decision on the setting up of a common committee to revise the country's Constitution. The future committee will have 25 members, namely, eight democrat liberals, eight social democrats, two independent lawmakers, four liberals, two members from the Hungarian minority party UDMR and a representative of national minorities.
Democrat liberal deputy Daniel Buda will head the committee.
