Romanian Govt To Check Public Procurement Proceedings Quarterly

This measure comes after the government noted in 2008 that only 2% of total purchases were unfolded via electronic system.

"Considering recent cuts in budget spending, the government conducted an analysis to see how contracting authorities apply assignment proceedings of public procurement, by using the electronic system, and noted that only 2% of total public purchases were unfolded through this system in 2008. Therefore, it decided to closely monitor these proceedings through quarterly reports," government sources told MEDIAFAX.

In March this year, the government decided that public institutions must register with the electronic auction program and use this system to assign contracts worth minimum 20% of the annual budget set for public procurement, otherwise, they will be fined 10 to 35,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2185).
