Meteorologists issued Monday a code yellow rain and storm warning for the regions: Moldavia, Maramures (northern Romania), eastern Transylvania, northeastern Muntenia and northern Dobruja, valid until 11 p.m. Tuesday. In these areas, rainfall is expected to exceed 25 liters per square meter.
Romania activated last Friday the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism, and, within hours, it received offers for assistance from Belgium, Austria, France and Estonia, the European Commission said in a press release. The Mechanism facilitates cooperation in disaster response, with the participation of the 27 EU member states, as well as Croatia, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
