Romanian Govt To Seek Confidence Vote Over Education Bill - Sources

Romania's Government decided in its Tuesday meeting to seek a confidence vote in Parliament to pass the education bill, starting procedures to this end on Wednesday, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The ruling coalition decided Monday evening that the Government will seek a confidence vote in Parliament to pass the country's education bill and unitary wage bill. According to the sources, the Government will adopt the decision to seek a confidence vote on the education bill in a meeting, following the required parliamentary procedures, while a similar decision will be adopted next week for the unitary wage bill.

Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana said Tuesday that the Government's decision is an insult to the Parliament and expressed his certainty that it will influence the vote on a potential motion of no-confidence.

The Alliance of Education Union Federations asked the prime minister to follow the parliamentary procedures provided by the Constitution as regards the adoption of organic laws, threatening to notify the courts and international bodies.
