Romanian Govt, Unions, Ownerships Sign Min Wage Hike Agreement
According to the agreement, the minimum wage is to grow to RON600 on January 1, next year, and is seen growing by RON100 each year starting 2009. On long term, the minimum wage would have a 50% share of the average salary by 2014, the agreement shows.
Trade union Cartel Alfa leader Bogdan Hossu, said “the agreement is a step ahead, which leads to stability and social peace, but also a positive signal for investors, business environment and employees.”
"Everybody has something to gain from this, as gaps would be reduced and both employees and owners will benefit from the economic growth," Hossu said.
In May, the net average wage stood at RON1,248, down from 1,282 in the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, the net average wage rose by 13.7% in real terms.
Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian said Wednesday the average wage is seen reaching RON1,325 in 2014.
