Romanian Intelligence Services Are Politically Involved – Social Democrat Official

"I call on the professionals in the intelligence services to observe the law and not interfere in politics. Unfortunately, there are two intelligence services currently involved in politics," Hrebenciuc said.

He added he warns the representatives of these institutions that these matters are known, from their own people. "this is happening, I hereby warn them that we know of this, we know this from their own people, not from somewhere else, so they have to observe the law and I call on the heads of the two services to get some sense and stop issuing orders of this type," Hrebenciuc said.

He said files are currently compiled for politicians on the election lists, "so that in December a democrat liberal Prime Minister can be nominated."

Asked by one of the talk show hosts if the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) is one of these two structures, Hrebenciuc immediately said “yes.” When the host said the mentioned intelligence service is currently run by a former social democrat and asked Hrebenciuc if he questions George Maior’s integrity, Hrebenciuc said: "It is not his integrity I question, it is his naivety."

"Anyone of us can be naïve at times," he added.

At the same time, answering a question, Hrebenciuc said the Democrat Liberal Party is the one favored by the intelligence service activities.

"I call on the professionals there, who know this is not the right thing to do, it is illegal and when I say illegal I say it all and nothing more (...) After all, they work on orders. But the fact that they receive such an order is illegal, the fact that they carry out such orders is also illegal. And that’s all I have to say, and I consider the subject closed," Hrebenciuc concluded.
