Romanian Interior Min Demands Police Establish Clear COD In Crulic’s Case

David requested Crulic’s body be exhumed for autopsy so that an exact cause of death is established, people familiar with the matter said. They said Crulic’s family agreed to the exhumation.

Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu told foreign minister Adrian Cioroianu in the cabinet meeting Wednesday he is “very upset” about Romanian authorities’ approach to the case of the Romanian citizen who died in Poland of starvation.

Tariceanu asked the foreign minister to draw up a report on the case by Thursday, which should include all the measures that were taken.

"I’ve seen how embassies and consulates of other countries get involved to protect the interests and rights of their citizens. I expect Romanian embassies, be they in Poland or elsewhere, to have the same attitude," Tariceanu said.

The prime minister also asked Cioroianu to inform him of any measures to be taken after the Foreign Ministry’s investigation, if any dysfunctional activity is found with the Romanian embassy in Poland or with Foreign Ministry employees.

Cioroianu said Tuesday, in the presence of Polish ambassador to Bucharest Jacek Paliszeski, that the ministry sent a team to the Romanian Embassy in Warsaw to establish the circumstances that led to the death of Claudiu Crulic.

In his turn, the Polish official expressed his regrets for the tragic ending of the Romanian national and extended his sympathy to Crulic’s family. He mentioned Polish authorities launched a “serious” investigation in the case.
