Romanian IT&C Regulator Urges Internet Providers To Block 40 Porn Sites

"The National Communication Authority decided Thursday he blocking of access to 40 pornographic websites that do not observe legal provisions regarding the prevention and fight against pornography. Following check-ups, ANC found that these websites, hosted in Romania, do not observe legal obligations to grant access based on a password (in most cases, there is not even a minimum warning regarding the age of users allowed to enter) nor do they require a fee per minute of use,” the regulator said in a press release Thursday.

 

The regulator declined to provide a list of the websites in question, saying that would encourage access to those respective sites.

 

"Because access on these websites was not password protected and was not charged, as the law requires, minors could have easily accessed pornographic material, which is against the law,” regulator president Liviu Nistoran said in the release.

 

Internet providers are obligated to block users’ access to the respective websites within 48 hours. Failure to block users’ access is punishable by fines ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 lei (EUR1=RON3.9047).
