Romanian Prime Minister Tariceanu and his Italian counterpart sent a joint letter to the EU President asking for support, for the social integration of Romanian citizens in Italy, especially those of Romani origin, and they convened on the constitution of a working group on the Romani issue.

The working group will include representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Education in the two countries and it will have to find efficient solutions for the social integration of Romani people.
The Italian Government will respect the security of Romanian citizens and it will guarantee their right to free circulation, through the fight against prejudice and efficient collaboration with Romanian authorities, said Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
Tariceanu arrived in Rome to hold talks with his Italian counterpart on the situation of Romanian citizens found on Italian soil, as well as the measures enacted Monday by the Bucharest Government for the management of their problems.
Tariceanu will meet with representatives of Romanian communities in Italy.
He announced, before leaving for Italy, that he would ask Italian officials to guarantee the security of Romanian citizens found on Italian soil, indicating that stopping the crimes depends almost entirely on Italian authorities.
Tariceanu’s trip to Rome was announced by the Government Sunday evening, after his telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
