Saftoiu said she wanted to check whether lawmakers really listen to political statements read out in Parliament.
In the presence of ten lawmakers, Saftoiu read Tuesday morning a made-up political statement, which was in fact a mixture of unrelated quotes from politicians and American journalists, covering topics ranging from slavery, poverty, terrorism to the use of Pacific yew tress in cancer treatments, the paper wrote.
Saftoiu delivered her speech as if it made sense, in a calm tone, without pausing and without mentioning she was quoting anyone. Lawmakers present applauded her in the end and conservative leader Daniela Popa, who presided over the meeting, thanked her for her speech.
"I wanted to show my colleagues that we can say anything, no matter how nonsensical, or, on the contrary, perfectly logical and interesting, and it makes no difference," Saftoiu said, adding she resorted to this gesture as a sign of protest to the way lawmakers understand their activity.
"It's all a big public speaking exercise," she said.
