Romanian Lawmakers Adopt Amendment Cutting Public Health Insurance Contribution to 5.5%

Romanian lawmakers unanimously adopted the amendment approved by the commissions for budget and finance which cut the contribution to the public health insurance system to 5.5% from 6.5%.

Romanian Lawmakers Adopt Amendment Cutting Public Health Insurance Contribution to 5.5%

The amendment to article 7 of the draft state budget law also states that people who are unemployed but are obliged to have health insurance must declare their income to their chosen insurance house and pay the 5.5%.

Article 7 was also amended to include a section which states that people working abroad, but residing in Romania, are to pay 5.5% of the income according to their contract with the foreign employer.

Article 7 also states that employers contribute 5.2% to the health insurance fund, while categories of persons provided for by article 259 section (6) of Law 95/2006 contribute 10.7%.
