Romanian Lawmakers Adopt Draft Law To Transfer Trade Registry To Chambers Of Commerce

Social democrat and liberal lawmakers voted in favor of the draft law which met with democrat liberals' stiff rejection.

Democrat liberal lawmaker Daniel Oajdea asked for the draft law to be sent to the parliament committee for legal matters, adding it is meant to provide money for mayors that sponsor the presidential election campaign.

Oajdea said the Trade Registry's transfer to chambers of commerce will lead to unfair competition as the latter will have access to companies' database which is "immoral and lacks common sense".

Liberal lawmaker Eugen Nicolaescu said the draft decision is essential to bring order in the company registration sector.

Conservative lawmaker Bogdan Ciuca said the parliament committee for legal matters solved all problems regarding the draft normative act, adding that any surplus of money would go to the state budget.

Hungarian minority party lawmaker Marton Arpad said the member of his party share different opinions regarding the proposition to transfer the Trade Registry to chambers of commerce and added aspects regarding unfair competition cannot be taken into account as access to company registration data is not forbidden at the moment either.

Lawmakers will cast Tuesday their final votes on the draft normative act which was previously rejected in the Senate.

The Chamber of Deputies was not able to take any decision on transferring the Trade Registry from the Justice Ministry to chambers of commerce in a previous meeting as the draft law did not receive the required number of votes.

The draft law on transferring the Trade Registry from the Justice Ministry to chambers of commerce was initiated in 2008 by social democrat, liberal, Hungarian minority party and national minority lawmakers.
