The Ministry of Foreign Affairs verified, Wednesday morning, the information according to which one Romanian citizen has been kidnapped in Nigeria, ministry spokesperson Alin Serbanescu told MEDIAFAX.
Following investigations, the ministry confirmed that one Romanian citizen has been kidnapped in Nigeria and announced procedures applicable in such situations have been initiated.
According to a press release issued by the ministry Wednesday, an update on the situation, at GMT 1100, “the Ministry, through the embassy in Nigeria and through the competent authorities, is unfolding the actions necessary to free the mentioned citizen.”
Armed individuals, on fast boats, attacked an oil tanker loaded with 4,000 tons of diesel fuel off the coast of Nigeria, Wednesday, and kidnapped one Romanian crew member, security sources told Reuters.
