Romanian Leu Slightly Up, Exch Rate At RON4.2265 Vs Euro

On December 31, the central bank computed a reference rate of RON4.2282 versus the euro.

The leu opened at RON4.2370/RON4.2400 against the euro Monday, similar with the closing value of December 31. It then gained ground in the first hour of trading, touching an early high at RON4.2180/RON4.22, on a positive sentiment in the region.

According to bank dealers, the positive trend of European bourses and a higher appetite for regional riskier assets supported the leu.

But the Romanian currency lost part of its earlier gains and traded at RON4.2250/RON4.23 against the euro at around GMT1100.

On the money market Monday, overnight rates were at 8.83%-9.33%, up on the day.
