Romanian Liberals Want Investigation Of Public Contracts Won By Ruling Party Sponsors
Romanian liberal leader Crin Antonescu announced Wednesday that his party intends to set up a special Senate committee to investigate the connection between the ruling Democratic Liberal Party’s financiers and certain public work contracts they were awarded.

Antonescu added the step is part of a series of actions which the Liberal Party will try to initiate.
Social Democratic Party president Victor Ponta said he supports the liberals' action and added he is in favor of making legislation on party and election campaign financing more transparent.
The Democratic Liberal Party received 41,241,293 lei (EUR1=RON4.0908) from donations, dues and other sources. According to the list of money originating in the private financing of political parties in 2009, published in the Official Journal, the party's sponsors included Lukoil (RON143,250), SC Cotroceni Park (RON126,081), Constructii Unu SA Iasi (RON100,000), Restaco SRL (RON110,000), Lukoil Ro, (RON286,500), GreenbauTehnologie SRL (RON150,000).
