Romanian Lower House Committee Sanctions Prosecution Of Ex-Youth Min

The legal committee in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies on Monday sanctioned with 18 votes in favor and one abstention the general prosecutor’s request to start prosecution against former youth and sports minister Monica Iacob Ridzi.

The committee’s report is subject to a general vote in the Chamber later on Monday.

Ridzi is accused of alleged misappropriation of state funds in connection to her organizing the festivities on the “Youth Day” on May 2.

Ridzi stepped down as youth and sports minister on July 14, saying she wanted to protect the reputation of the government and of her own Liberal Party (PNL).
