The bill, sponsored by UDMR, enjoyed cross-partisan support and was adopted with 234 votes.
MP Laszlo Borbely (UDMR) argued the bonuses were paid and cashed "in good faith" and in accordance with the employment contracts. However, "changes to legislation" and checkups by the Court of Accounts forced the employees to return the bonuses, plus interest and penalties.
