Romanian Magistrates, Politicians Sign Principles Of Pact On Justice
The representatives of the Romanian magistrates and politicians except the Ministry of Justice and the Democratic Liberal Party signed on Thursday the principles of the Pact on Justice, after several amendments were included.

The only ones who did not sign the document were state secretary Gabriel Tanasescu on behalf of the Justice Ministry and Mircea Toader, the head of the democrat liberal group in the Chamber of Deputies.
Toader however signed on the document that he participated in the debates without assuming the provisions of the document.
The representatives of magistrates and the parliamentary groups had talks on the five axes of the principles of the Pact on Justice, and brought several amendments.
Most of them referred to the funding of the legal system and the relation between the three powers.
The provision regarding the threshold needed to ensure the activity will be discussed by the parliamentary committee.
Item 4 of Axis 2 regarding the transfer of attributions of the Justice Ministry onto the Supreme Court with respect to the management of the budget of the courts of appeals, of courthouses and of judges, so that the already existing legislation on the transfer of attributions will be applied.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Association of the Romanian Magistrates (AMR), the National Union of Judges in Romania, the Association of Prosecutors in Romania, the General Magistrates Assembly, the Supreme Court and lawmakers of the Hungarian minority, the National Liberal Party and the alliance formed of the Social Democratic Party and the Conservative Party.
Earlier Thursday, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and of the ruling coalition Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) announced within a meeting organized at the initiative of several NGOs that they will not sign a Pact on Justice.
