"Resigning as response to false accusations can't be a solution," Severin said on private TV station Antena 3.

The Socialist Group in the European Parliament said earlier Tuesday Severin was ousted from all positions held within the group. European socialists also called on Severin to resign from the EP.

Romanian Social Democratic Party president Victor Ponta said Severin must resign from the party and the European Parliament. The party leader highlighted he will start procedures to oust him unless Severin takes a decision by himself.

Ponta said he is certain Severin is not a victim of conspiracy, but a victim of his own mistake.
