According to the draft law to revise the Constitution, if the country’s president is suspended or is temporarily unable to exert attributions, the Chamber of Representatives Speaker will be appointed interim president. The interim president cannot appoint the prime minister or confirm the Cabinet after being endorsed by the Parliament.
According to the current Constitution, interim president cannot address messages to the Parliament, dissolve the Parliament or organize referendums.
Romania’s Government has decided to put forward a draft law for the revision of the Constitution, providing for a single-chamber Parliament and a maximum of 300 MPs, which was forwarded to the head of state.
The single chamber will be called the Chamber of Representatives and will comprise up to 300 MPs.
