"It is regrettable that the authorities in the Republic of Moldova failed to understand that in the relationship with the European Union the observance of European norms and principles is not optional," Diaconescu told MEDIAFAX.

Moldovan prime minister Zinaida Greceanîi said in a press conference that the Moldovan state has not introduced any restrictions against Romanian citizens, Info-Prim Neo informed online.

The prime minister added if Romanian people were kept from crossing the border, then such a ban was based on legal grounds, since Moldova is currently holding Parliament elections and foreign intervention would be unacceptable.

Some 300 Romanian and Moldovan citizens said they were blocked at the border crossing into Moldova.
