During the hearings, Videanu said the ordinance transferring a series of companies in 2007 from the Economy Ministry to the Privatization Authority must be annulled as soon as possible, to enable the ministry to draw up policies in the energy sector.

All contracts regarding the selling of energy by state-owned companies Nuclearelectrica and Hidroelectrica to private distributers will be made public, he added.

Videanu said he will talk with Finance Minister about the possibility to drop excise for biofuels, and hoped to have energy supplied to every corner of the country by the end of his mandate.

The Economy Ministry wants to keep primary energy resources in the state’s property, which does not exclude their exploitation by private companies.

The ministry’s budget can afford investments of up to EUR30 million in the pit-coal mining sector, as the ministry’s strategy is to focus on surface exploitations as far as brown coal is concerned for they do not jeopardize people’s lives.

Romania's hydropower sector needs investments worth of EUR34.6 billion, but not all the funds can be ensured, Videanu said.
