Romanian National Education Federation Agrees With Education Pact

In the federation’s opinion, this pact will result in the establishment and application of a medium and long term strategy that would restore logical order in the restructuring and upgrade of Romanian education and the enactment of coherent and harmonized legislation, suitable for the strategy convened upon.

"Education truly becomes a priority for the entire political class, it can no longer be confiscated by any one political camp and, therefore, this will set the basis for the removal of politics from the managing structures in education," said a press release issued by the federation.

According to the document, when the pact was signed, those who maintained the deadlock in education reform were dealt a “lethal blow,” which explains the reactions of certain groups of interests who saw in this pact a threat to the business they had developed “on the back of Romanian schools.”

The federation said that it will participate in the development of this strategy and it will watch over the observance of the pact by all signing parties, stating that "the great champion, winner of this event of historic importance for Education, is Romania."

Representatives of Romanian political parties signed Wednesday the national pact on education initiated by president Traian Basescu.
