The decision was taken Friday by the National Education Federation (FEN) Congress. Unionists are unhappy with the layoffs provided by Government emergency ordinance 114/2009, lower salaries and the refusal to be granted certain bonuses stated in their collective labor contracts, a press release says.
FEN unionists also condemn the annulment, through Government emergency ordinance 1/2010, of their constitutional right to collective salary and bonus negotiation, the refusal to implement judicial decisions granting them salary rights, which were blocked by the Education Ministry, as well as the unjust merging of certain schools, combined with demanding a higher number of students per classroom and under-evaluating the standard costs per student.
The education system’s severe under-financing and „attempts to discredit education unions, through inflammatory and irresponsible statements made by certain government and ministry officials” are other reasons the FEN cites in calling for protests.
FEN will schedule the protest action in cooperation with the other education system unions.
