According to Pro Democratia leader Cristian Parvulescu, the NGOs sent an administrative complaint to Cotroceni Palace, the headquarters of the Presidency. At the same time, a request to suspend the referendum was filed with the Bucharest Court of Appeals.
Parvulescu said the NGOs plan to take this matter to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. "We know there are several recommendations by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly and the Venice Commission regarding elections. These good-practice recommendations were not taken into account," Parvulescu said.
A previous request to suspend the referendum, filed before November 22, was rejected last week by the Bucharest Court of Appeals.
