The electronic commerce market, with online card payment, increased 263% in 2007 compared to 2006, to EUR34.8 million, with a total of some 450,000 transactions, according to data from RomCard, quoted by computer solutions integrator Gecad ePayment.
Romanian Online Payment Sales Tripled In ’07
In 2006, the volume of online payment transactions was EUR9.6 million, while Gecad representatives estimate for the end of 2008 a EUR70 million market and 780,000 transactions, according to a press release issued by Gecad ePayment.
"At the same, we are expecting a hike in the level of online payments, on the electronic commerce market, from the current 15-20%, to 25%," the executive general director of the company, Carmen Sebe, said in the press release.
Romanian online stores using the ePayment solution registered 344,000 transactions in 2007, with a total value of EUR29.5 million, according to the press release.
Sebe said that the market has room for large players, who are seeking new directions of development, as well as young entrepreneurs.
Between October and December 2007, sales reached EUR9.9 million, with an important contribution brought by tourism packs for December, which are sold starting October. In the last two months of the previous year, the value of transactions topped EUR6.2 million, up 153% on the similar interval in 2006.
