Ponta said that, although they don't like it, social democrats respect the Constitutional Court ruling, they still think the vote on the bill was rigged and urge the president not to promulgate it into law.
He said the party would send the president a letter Wednesday asking him to send the bill back to Parliament.
The Romanian Constitutional Court Wednesday ruled constitutional the country's unitary pension bill, a key element in the country's EUR20 billion IMF-led loan agreement. The bill had been contested by opposition liberals, social democrats and conservatives.
Social democrats have filed a criminal complaint against the Chamber of Deputies speaker, whom they accused of rigging the vote on the pension bill. Opposition parties have also threatened to trigger procedures to suspend the head of state from his position if he passes the bill, the final step for it to become law.
