They also said social democrats decided to no longer file a no-confidence motion when the Government seeks a vote of confidence in Parliament to pass the education bill, arguing that if the Government survives the opposition's no-confidence motion on Wednesday, then, it is its right to pass the bill on Thursday by seeking the lawmakers' vote of confidence.

They added, however, that social democrats might submit a no-confidence motion if the Government decides to seek the lawmakers' vote of confidence to pass the country's unitary salary law in the public sector.

Prime Minister Emil Boc recently said the Government decided to resort to the "harsh procedure" of seeking the lawmakers' confidence vote to pass the bill because the draft education law is stuck in Parliament and stalling its adoption is not good for the modernization of the education system. Last week, the standing offices of the Romanian Senate and Chamber of Deputies decided the Government will seek a confidence vote in Parliament on Thursday, October 28, to pass the education bill.

Romania's opposition parties submitted a no-confidence motion in Parliament last Monday, hoping to bring down the center-right coalition Government led by Boc. The opposition needs the votes of at least 236 lawmakers of the 471-seat Parliament to oust the Government. Opposition parties currently have a total 214 seats in Parliament.
