Romanian Owners Of Multiple Homes, High Engine Capacity Cars Not To Receive Heating Subsidies

Romanians who own more than one home or cars with an engine capacity exceeding 1,600 cubic meters will not receive heating subsidies, the Government decided in a meeting Monday.

Evaluations show that over 10% of the 3.2 million families that are granted heating subsidies will lose the heating aid.

The Government decided that the new measures regarding heating subsidies will be applied starting with the 2010-2011 winter.

Romanian Labor Minister Ioan Botis said after the meeting that the maximum required income cap per family member was kept at 615 lei (EUR1=RON4.2668), and added the categories of heating subsidy beneficiaries was more clearly defined.Therefore, people who own more than one home or vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 1,600 cubic meters will no longer receive heating subsidies.

People who misstate their assets in order to receive heating subsidies will be fined up to RON5,000.
