Romanian Parl Commission Recommends Youth Minister Dismissal, Prosecution
The Romanian Parliament commission looking into the Youth Day scandal recommended on Thursday that the prime minister dismisses youth minister Monica Iacob Ridzi and requested her prosecution on charges of embezzlement and abuse of office.

The commission also requested an investigation by the Fiscal Administration Agency and notifying the Competition Council and Court of Accounts regarding the contracts with the firms Artisan and Mark, which organized the Youth Day festivities. Liberal deputy Alina Gorghiu, the president of the commission, said members have also requested an examination of the National Agency for Public Purchases Regulations and Monitoring, which, they say, endorsed an illegal auction.
Democrat liberal MPs in the commission have issued a separate opinion, in a report saying that although the Youth Day contracts were flawed, there were no illegalities and the examination has been insufficient, so they do not support prosecuting the youth minister.
The five signatories of the report ask that the commission continue its investigation of the case.
