Romania’s Unemployment Rate To Drop To 7.3% In 2010 From 7.8% In 2009

The national unemployment rate increased in November by 0.4% compared to October, to 7.5%, according to the country’s employment Agency.

For 2010, the unemployment aid budget’s total funds are estimated at RON1.82 billion (EUR1=RON4.2119), of which 64.7% will come from contribution to the unemployment security system, 12.2% from the employers’ contribution to the guarantee fund paying wage claims, 21.1% from non-fiscal revenue and 2% sums granted by the European Commission for the payments that were made.

In 2010, the unemployment security budget will finance expenses worth RON2.965 billion, of which RON2.944 billion will go to the unemployment security system (99.3%) and RON21 million to the guarantee fund paying salary claims (0.7%).

The unemployment security budget for 2010 is based on a total deficit of RON1.145 billion.

According to the National Prognosis Commission (CNP), the unemployment rate increased from 4.4% in 2008 to 7.6% in 2009, and will decrease to 6.2% in 2010.

The number of unemployed people at the end of the year will increase from 403,400 in 2008 to 685,000 in 2009, and will decrease to 550,000 in 2010, according to the most recent data provided by the institute.
