Romanian Parliament Leaders Decide Wed On Calling Extraordinary Plenary Session

The standing offices of Romania’s two chambers of parliament meet Wednesday to decide on whether or not to call for an extraordinary plenary session, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Monday.

Sources from among Senate leaders said earlier Monday that Vacaroiu had a telephone conversation on the topic with lower house speaker Bogdan Olteanu.

Romanian President Traian Basescu sent Vacaroiu and Olteanu a letter Thursday urging them to call an extraordinary parliament session to reexamine the law on the Court of Accounts and to vote on prosecutors’ request to probe bribery allegations against former Cabinet members.
