The 24-year old pilot of a lightweight four-seat Extra 300L, whose father had been the aerodrome’s commander in the past, was practicing for an aviation show that was to take place on Saturday, June 6, but was subsequntly cancelled following the tragic incident.
The crash was announced around 8 p.m. on Friday, ten minutes after the plane took off. Mircea Ciuca, air investigations director with the Romanian Transports Ministry, said the plane went into a spin and the pilot was unable to regain control.
Two fire engines were dispatched at the scene from the Magurele emergency inspectorate, as well as extrication teams were sent in the area by the Bucharest emergency ambulance service.
Bucharest ambulance service head, Bogdan Oprita, told MEDIAFAX the pilot was all alone in the plane when the accident ocurred.
