Romanian PM Asks Cabinet For Solutions To State-Run Cos' Arrears - Sources

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc gave the ministers of Finance, Transports, Economy and Justice, as well as the president of revenue service ANAF, one week to find ways to reduce the arrears of state-owned companies.

The prime minister made this request in the Government's meeting on Wednesday, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

Jeffrey Franks, head of the IMF mission to Romania, said the state-run companies have combined debts to the budget equal to 5% of the gross domestic product, causing major delays in the country's economy.

Franks said the IMF will work with the Government in the coming months to find a comprehensive solution to the arrears.
